The UK Intellectual Property Office has recently granted a patent from William Blythe Limited in the area of solid-state battery technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The patent, titled \u201cDoped lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide\u201d, relates to a manufacturing method of doped-lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO), one of the promising inorganic solid-electrolyte materials under development for next-generation solid-state battery technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
William Blythe has been active in battery material research & development for a number of years, with previous collaborative Innovate UK projects targeting cathode active materials and lithium-sulfur technology alongside battery start-ups and automotive OEMs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This new patent is an extension of previous development programmes. The research & development team at William Blythe continue to apply their knowledge of scalable inorganic chemistry to novel materials for emerging technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commenting on the invention, William Blythe\u2019s Technical Director, Mike Butler, said \u201cThis patent grant demonstrates William Blythe\u2019s commitment to innovation and further builds our portfolio of proprietary advanced materials. The novel manufacturing technique described in this patent enables doped LLZO to be manufactured at scale using precipitation chemistry and is a positive step towards affordable, scalable, All-Solid-State-Batteries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
